Great Decisions: "Out of Africa: How Food Insecurity and Water Shortages THERE Affect Us HERE" Panel Discussion
On Monday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m., a panel discussion entitled "Out of Africa: How Food Insecurity and Water Shortages THERE Affect Us HERE," will feature discussion with Dr. Michael DeVivo of Grand Rapids Community College and Dr. Gerald Nyambane, Professor of Agricultural Economics at Davenport University, moderated by Dr. Deborah Steketee of Aquinas College and will be held at the Aquinas College at the Aquinas College Performing Arts Center.
From the Sahara to the Namib, arid lands continue to expand, creating water shortage and food insecurity. A consequence of climate change, this phenomenon has far reaching ramifications, and the U.S. is not immune to being affected by this situation in Africa. When those driven by hunger cannot feed themselves adequately, the threat of instability, terrorism and civil war becomes elevated. Is the U.S. willing to take the lead in fostering longstanding stability?
