In Exodus, the High Priest of Israel is commanded to have bells on because "his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not." Many explanations are made for why the bells keep him from dying, but I believe one above the others makes the best sense.
