Pro-Palestine independent candidate Akhmed Yakoob finished third with nearly 70,000 votes in the West Midlands mayoral election and announced his plan to stand in the next general election.
Yakoob, who ran a pro-Palestine campaign, told the BBC he would be standing in Birmingham's Ladywood constituency, which is currently held by Labour MP Shabana Mahmood.
The Labour Party’s stance on Israel’s war on Gaza has caused them to lose significant support, particularly from Muslim voters, who have switched their support to George Galloway’s Workers Party of Britain (WPB) and pro-Palestine Muslim independent candidates.
