On July 16th, 2020, I went out and was surprised twice with some awesome locomotives on the CP!
We start off with being caught by a train at the Talbot Avenue crossing. It's not just any train, it is CP 421. A Westbound mixed freight train. It seems to be the one Ontarian railfans...and foamers alike have been chatting about in the past few days as it's had some insane power on it from dual heritage units to heritage and CM&Q SD40-2F's as power. I was genuinely shocked and surprised with the epic consist of that days 421.
The trains power consisted of CP 7010, a newly rebuilt SD70ACu in CP's classic Maroon/Grey "Script Lettering" scheme. It happens to be the first out of five to be painted in the scheme. It was trailed by CP 6644, which is also an SD70ACu. It is the best looking unit on CP's fleet, hands down. It's painted in a RCAF "Spitfire" plane inspired scheme. 7010 was rebuilt from CP SD90MAC 9153 and 6644 was rebuilt from 90MAC 9147. 6644 was technically speaking 7024, but is refered to as 6644 by crews and railfans alike.
We're now at CP's main yard in the city where we see CP 298 with CP ES44AC 8720 and CP GP38-2 3046 lead a grain train slowly through the yard eastbound to then turn south to head to Minneapolis, MN.
We then see CP 6644 and 7010 reversing after switching some cars around in the yard reversing as well as CP GP38-2 4442 and GP20c ECO 2300 running light back to Weston shops.
Lastly, we see a string of freight cars attached to three EMD/GMD locomotives. CP SD30c ECO 5025 is up front followed by a classic CP SD40-2 numbered 5936 painted in the CP Rail System "Dual Flag" scheme and follwed again by CP 6251, an Ex-SOO Line SD60. 6251 was formerly SOO 6051 and 5025 was rebuilt from CP SD40-2 5987.
Thanks for watching!
