Father of Grom, Boris, was one of three tiger cubs found without a mother in the Kavalerovsky district of Primorsky Krai in December 2012. In May 2014, after undergoing a rehabilitation course, Boris was released into the wild in the territory of the Amur region.
The young Boris killed a 3-year-old bear in the fall of 2014. In the middle of the following year, he defeated a 2-year-old brown bear.
Svetlaya, the mother of Grom, was found orphaned in February 2013 in the Pozharsky district of Primorsky Krai, not far from the rural settlement of Svetlogorye. The predator received her name from the name of this settlement.
In June 2014, after completing a rehabilitation course, Svetlaya returned to the taiga. She was released in the "Zhuravliny" reserve in the Jewish Autonomous Region.
During their time at the rehabilitation center, they lived in neighboring enclosures and, so to speak, were acquainted. However, they were released in different regions. And then Boris, having lived for a year and a half near the release site in the Amur region, makes a sprint of almost 500 km to a neighboring region and finds Svetlaya, who lives in the "Zhuravliny" reserve in the Jewish Autonomous Region.
In the spring of 2017, Svetlaya and Boris had their first offspring: three tiger cubs, two boys and a girl. Growing up, each of the tiger cubs chose their own path. One of them settled in the Ul'dury reserve, which is located northeast of Boris's territory. The second set out to explore new territories. The third tiger cub, one of the two boys, remained in the same area as Boris and Svetlaya.
By 2021, Boris stopped appearing on cameras. Most likely, his son, Grom, pushed him out of the territory.
