Religious Fundamentalism, of all stripes, has been under scrutiny for the last three decades. I first heard criticism about fundamentalism during the Jim and Tammy Baker scandal in the late eighties. The term 'religious addiction' became in vogue and was addressed by groups like Fundamentalist Anonymous, and other writers including Father Leo Booth.
The subject still was at the whim of the mass media. After the internet became a factor in our lives, people began talking about recovering from fundamentalist abuse. The term 'religious addiction' eventually faded away and now people talk about 'self deprogramming' or 'deconstructing' themselves from a belief system.
Father Leo Booth has been both a Catholic and an Episcopalian priest, and, to my knowledge, is currently a Unity minister. He wrote the book 'When God Becomes a Drug' and naturally I had to interview him.
This program was videotaped in the early 90's in Long Beach, California. Very important points are made, especially for those trying to deconstruct themselves from an abusive belief system, or background.
