As more Ohioans become eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine starting Friday, Gov. Mike DeWine is hosting another 2 p.m. press conference to discuss the state's progress and next steps.
Starting Friday, nearly 1.6 million additional Ohioans will be added to the COVID vaccine eligibility list. This includes all residents ages 40 and older and those with the following conditions:
Cancer
Chronic kidney disease
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Heart disease
Obesity
Then, beginning March 29, Gov. DeWine is opening eligibility to every Ohioan ages 16 and older.
As more people become eligible for a vaccination, that will make the search more crowded for those looking to schedule an appointment. We anticipate this will be a question Gov. DeWine is asked as some Ohioans say they're continuing to experience issues with finding an appointment.
“Get the Shot website is a joke,” one Twitter user posted on Tuesday, according to a report from the Ohio Capital Journal. “You then have to check individual pharmacy websites to check for an appointment. It’s a very frustrating process. Too decentralized.”
Gov. DeWine said Tuesday the state was expected to receive another 400,000 doses next week. Beyond that? There's still some questions, but Gov. DeWine said he's expecting supply to expand.
"The week of March 29, we’ve had every indication from the federal government and the Biden administration that we will see a rather significant increase [in vaccines] for the week of March 29."
