After an intense workout, the only thing hurting more than your sore muscles is your poor nose.
Here are five ways to get the smell out of your gym clothes for good!
Don’t use fabric softener because it creates a barrier that traps stinky smells, according to Bustle.
The reason?
Fabric softener stops the wicking power of the fabrics and stops the sweat on your clothes from evaporating.
It sounds counterintuitive but Bustle also suggests cutting back on laundry detergent because it makes stretchy, manmade materials like Spandex and Lycra harder to clean.
That’s because the tightly woven fibers trap bacteria, and regular detergent isn’t made for that kind of deep cleaning.
The outlet recommends using a detergent made for workout clothes like Hex.
A pro tip from Health.com is to turn clothes inside out since the sweat, bacteria and oils build up on the inside of your clothes.
Men’s Health says washing synthetic clothes in cold water is key.
A leading scientist for Procter & Gamble told the Washington Post that our stench is trapped into fabric when we use hot water.
Shoving dirty clothes into a gym bag or hamper will only make clothes smell worse because these storage methods only trap additional odors.
Let them air out before tossing them in your gym bag and wash them as soon as possible.
