(21 Oct 2014) Funerals were held in Turkey's Suruc district on Tuesday for three members of the Kurdish fighting force in Kobani, the People's Protection Units, or YPG, killed killed recently in the ongoing battle against the Islamic State group.
Over a hundred people attended the funerals of 30-year old Idris Ahmad, 20-year old female fighter Hanim Dabaan, and 25-year old Mohammed Mustafa.
As mourners grieved for the dead, heavy fighting continued in Kobani on Tuesday, with plumes of smoke visible from the Turkish side of the border.
Turkey said on Monday that it was helping Iraqi Kurdish fighters cross into Syria to support their brethren fighting Islamic State militants.
The statement, by Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, came hours after the US airdropped weapons and ammunition to resupply Kurdish fighters for the first time.
