Winter in Finland can be harsh, too cold, grey, dismal with low temperatures and up to seven months of snow and ice covering the ground. Not only it affects humans but the wildlife as well. Meet our Furry friend, livari.
Back in 2011, a wild sea otter was having a very difficult time finding food to survive through the winter. the hungry otter spotted the man living on his own in a house near where he nested, and wondered if he had some food to spare.
Seeing that the poor otter was small and malnourished, Seppo fed the otter worms and fish and the small animal recovered. Since then, the otter always visits Seppo at his home in Punkaharju in eastern Finland. He was given a name, Livari.
Livari came and went as he pleased but he knew one thing was for sure, his friend Seppo, always had his back and will feed him if he needed it.
Their friendship continued from that day onwards. Although Livari was a wild animal, he was always very gentle one around Seppo. He would even sit next to him on the porch, or run around his home to warm himself up. Livari continues to visit Seppo year after year, even today.
However, we must remember that this is a wild animal, what Seppo did for this starving otter is admirable but always be cautious when it comes to feeding unfamiliar animals.
