Once upon a time, there were two friends who lived in Arabia.
One of them was bestowed with many worldly riches which included two big orchards of grape vines surrounded by a fence of date palms. Between those two gardens there was a farm and a running stream of clear water.
All these bounties should have made him thankful to Allah but instead he became arrogant and vain.
Once while talking to his friend, he said that i have more wealth, honour and power than you. And then walked into his garden and looking at it said " i don't think that these gardens will ever perish nor do i think that day of judgment will ever come. And also if in case I am returned to my Lord there will be definitely better things for me there as well".
His friend who was a believer, replied " Do you deny the Lord who created you from dust and made you into a man? I for one know that Allah is the Lord and I shall not associate any one with Him. Why didn't you say when you entered your garden that it is Allah's will and there is no power except with Allah. If you see me inferior to you in terms of wealth and sons, then maybe Allah will give me better than what you have now. Allah may send thunderbolts from heaven to wreck your gardens and the water of the stream may run deep into earth so that you may not be able to get it back."
Then one day he found his gardens in ruins, he regretted for having committed shirk that is associating partners with Allah.
So my dear children, what we have learnt from this story is that when we are given bounties and gifts by Allah we should never be arrogant and proud of it. But should always remember to thank Allah for all that He has given us.
