Marauders are really tricky in the Cycle: Frontier. They do a perfectly aimed snipe attack with an AoE projectile if they cannot find you. They refuse to reveal their weak spot unless you are super close to them and they are about to rip your throat out, and then they do a mega-ton of damage.
It is super daunting for new players, but I hope to show you how to kill a Marauder without having to rely on bad map geometry like at the Crashed Ship.
I drop in with a pistol, some ammo, some stims, and no Armor. this is probably the worst case scenario, so if we can kill a Jeff with this basic equipement, we can use what we have learnt to kill him with better equipment,
After dropping in to what seemed like a full map, I ran straight to base camp. I get there, clean out some of the mobs, and to buy myself time, I lure the Jeff outside, run inside and close the door. This makes Jeff have to run all the way around to reset. He will heal in this time, and will not aggro any players. I use this time to get some loot and then kill of all the smaller creatures that might get in my way.
Time to fight the Jeff.. I run directly to him when he is gets aggro'ed. If there is too large a distance between us, he will use the area denial spit as an opening. This spit does Damage over Time, as well as disables my sprint, so I do not want that lying around so that I have the most space to run around and deal with him. I always make sure that the Jeff can pathfind to me, as he will launch into the deadly sniper spit if he cannot.
Once I am close to him, he will open his mouth to roar before striking a melee. I shoot a round or two into his mouth, and then run away. The running away is tricky, because Jeff often 'teleports' his melee and still damages you despite you being well out of range of his claws! To counter this, I always get him to attack me where I can run around a corner. His attacks do not 'teleport' arround corners, so this is fairly safe.
If you have no armor, you have to take a stim or 2 before reengaging Jeff if he hurts you. Without armor, each attack does about 56 Damage, meaning you will die if he manages to hit you with both attacks in his volley.
After killing him, I run to evac, grab some random loot lying around, and evac! I am happy no players came to bother me while I was fighting the Marauder, as I heard them at the northern uplink, powerplant, South West Collection, and East Collection.
