Most South African history courses focus on the apartheid era, between 1948 and 1994, but it is essential to understand the historical background that led to the discriminatory system of the twentieth century and the opposition to it. We step back before apartheid, before South Africa became a country, before the white Europeans landed at the Cape of Good Hope... and we look at the San, the Khoikhoi, the Bantu-speaking tribes and the relationships between these three groups.
