Venice Florida is one of my favorite places to hunt for megalodon teeth. If you've never heard of it, its on the Gulf of Mexico a little over an hour south of Tampa Bay and is known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World. I don't know who anointed it that, but it started a long time before I started going there. I live in a pretty awesome place for hunting shark teeth so you know its got to be good if I'm going to leave Summerville to hunt. Specifically I go there to dive because you can actually see in the water, unlike in SC where you are lucky to be able to see your gauges. There have been hurricanes for the last two years stirring up the gulf, so the potential for good hunting was there. Early this year I started seeing incredible finds on the socials with tales of unprecedented visibility. That was enough for @AncientAdventures and me to plan a trip down for a chance to make our own megalodon tooth finds. The charters book months in advance so I asked her how many days she wanted to go and she said she only wanted to go once. She gets sea sick but she wanted to find a good ocean meg, so once was all she could commit to. I checked around and found a charter with openings 4 days in a row, so I booked both of us on day 1, and then the following 3 days I was going solo with Top2Bottom. Diva had other plans for collecting the rest of the week while I was waking up at the crack of dawn to catch the boat. We arrived at the landing, piled our gear onboard and we were off. We made it out onto the gulf and the water was as calm as a lake. I had never seen the surface so smooth! No waves, very little wind. Conditions top side were great. We arrived at the dive site and I could literally see the bottom from the side of the boat. And it was 30 feet down! Viso hadn't been this good on any of my trips since the first time I was here 20 years ago. Tooth diving is usally solo, but the water was so clear that Diva and I could see each other the whole dive. There were a lot of teeth to be found. We floated a few feet off the bottom and when we would see one, we would just swoop down and scoop it up. Repeat until tank empty. Topside Diva was getting seasick even with the water as calm as it was, but she was still happy because she had her best dive ever down there. Watch the video to see what she found! The next dive was pretty much the same thing as the first, but Diva got cold and she had to bail before she was out of air. I continued the good work. Third dive she didn't go at all because she was cold and sick so I was on my own. I kept finding teeth but the first tank of the day was definitely the best. It was a fantastic day diving and I had an amazing time. And the best part was I still had three more days to rack more teeth.
