The #United States and other Western powers are pressing on with the evacuation from Afghanistan of their nationals and some of their Afghan staff from #Kabul airport, from where about 8,000 people have been flown out since Sunday, a Western security official said. Thousands of people have desperately tried to get past Taliban roadblocks and #US troops to reach the airport.
Zoe Gardner, Policy and Advocacy Lead at the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, says they're receiving "desperate calls." "Every minute we've got calls coming in either from people who are here in the UK and have family that they're desperate to help escape from Afghanistan, or from people over there asking us 'is there anyway to evacuate us.'" And unfortunately we have no idea how to help these people. It's a terrible situation."
