Hey guys! Hope you're well. Today I just wanted to give you guys a quick overview of how to become a foster parent in Florida, specifically Central Florida, and how long the process took for my husband and I to become licensed. I have listed as many links and resources as possible. If you have anything else that would be valuable to add to the list, feel free to contact me so I can add it for other future foster parents.

If you are in Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion, or Sumter County, Florida (circuit 5), the agency that is over our district is Kids Central, Inc. You will go through Kids Central to get your training and certification done. They are the agency that will call you for placement and who will assign YOU a caseworker to help you along your foster care journey.

Each county has it's own agency that monitors each of the children that are currently in foster care. The caseworker in charge of your child's case will be from one of these agencies: LifeStream Behavioral Center - Lake & Sumter, Youth & Family Alternatives - Citrus & Hernando, or The Centers - Marion.
