I'm still having a bit of Painters Block, so in this video I'm painting a spontaneous 'Card Swipe' technique that is a lot of fun, and can help if you are suffering from Painters Block, as you can just use the back of an old painting, take the pressure off, relax and not worry whether it works out or not, a great way to get back into painting after a break.
I'm using the back of an old painting on Saunders Waterford 100% cotton hot press 140lb/300g weight paper, 11" x 15"/28cms x 38cms, but use any type paper you have, my paper is taped to my board with ordinary decorators masking tape and is at an angle of about 45 degrees so gravity will help me paint. I apply the paint, fresh from the tube, on an old, flexible plastic store card, and 'swipe' it onto the wet paper to see what will happen. I use cerulean blue, paynes grey, maybe a bit of indigo, sepia and burnt and raw sienna, various brushes as demonstrated in the video to further move the paint around, but use whichever colours you feel like playing and experimenting with, and whichever similar brushes you have.
