STORYLINE
A French guesthouse manager has appeared before a Sri Lankan magistrate to face the charge of sexually molesting a 33-year old French tourist a month ago.
Olivier Sage, 44, who manages the "French Villa" a boutique guesthouse on the island's southern coast popular among tourists, was arrested and released on bail last month for the alleged sexual molesting. He was asked to appear before the Galle's additional magistrate Gunendra Munasinghe on May 29.
However, when the case was called on Wednesday, Sage did not appear and the magistrate issued an arrest warrant on him. Later, he appeared in courts with his lawyer, but the magistrate asked them file a motion requesting the case to be taken on Thursday.
If convicted, he could be jailed for five years.
