One of the most disturbing rumours and myths about the Second World War, revolves around Adolf Hitler and his alleged plot to invade the Vatican City and also kidnap the Pope, Pope Pius XII. Following the deposing of his friend Benito Mussolini, Hitler was furious with the Italians and it looked as if their role and involvement in the Second World War was coming to an end.

Hitler in a rage would allegedly accuse the Vatican of negotiating peace with the Allies, and would spout hatred about the Pope. Hitler and Pope Pius XII hadn't seen eye to eye, and both had been critical of one another. However recent research has uncovered that possibly Hitler even threatened to abduct the man considered as the Head of the Catholic Church.

This act would have been hugely divisive and would have caused more damage than promoting the Nazi cause. For millions around the world, Pope Pius was considered God's representative on Earth, and a brutal act involving kidnapping him would have been seen as highly treacherous. Allegedly it took the combined effort of Hitler's highest generals and inner circle to convince him not to launch the plot. So join as we look at whether Hitler planned to kidnap the Pope or not.
