This video shows the possibility of dumping excess electricity by heating water in a hot water tank. It is all made very easy with solar assistant and home assistant. Both of these programs are installed as an operating system onto raspberry pis. In the video I don't mention that I use a shelly switch to turn the heater element power on and off and I use a sonoff temperature gauge to measure the water temperature.

It is now Christmas day and we have hardly used any gas to heat hot water since installing the system in early October. Most days the hot water gets up the around 65C which is hot enough to kill legionella bacteria in the water. The tank is 300 litres.
