WW2 WOOD AND STEEL TRAINING ROUNDS REVEALED
This all steel training round is incredibly rare and was used at Luftwaffe flak training schools to give trainee gunners a feeling for the size and weight they could expect when handling live rounds in the field.
Also, instead of using up valuable ammunition for anti aircraft gun training, German forces created wooden rounds.
Designed for the 2cm flak guns, these balsa wood bullets would disintegrate inside the barrel after being fired but would give troops the opportunity to learn how to load, aim, and fire their weapons.
We were delighted to be able to donate a number of the original wooden rounds from our collection to the Batterie Todt museum at Audinghen, Pas de Calais - you can see them on display with the two anti aircraft guns on level two of the main gun room.
💥 Please note these are museum exhibits and are deactivated so are inert 💥
