The Kansas River is affectionately known as the "KAW" and is the largest prairie-based river system in the world. (FOK). I travelled it with the RiverKeepers, the Friends of the Kaw, FOK for short this past weekend.
I've become very aware of the dire situation our earth has devolved into and my awareness has led me to find ways to try to make a difference in my backyard. The KAW is in my backyard~ it need my help, it needs your help. If you don't live by this RIVER, I bet there is a river close to you that could use your help.
We did a sandbar clean up and collected battery cases, glass pieces, cans, trash, debris from who knows where~all day long. It was a coordinated effort involving multi-agencies, partners, people and groups from Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan and Wichita~and probably others cities as well. It was an effort that was well worth my time.
It was my adventure this week~
