The judge in the OJ Simpson trial visited the scene of the murders to prepare the ground for a tour by the jury.
Judge Lance Ito led a preview trip of lawyers and journalists to the condominium in Los Angeles where Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were killed.
He said wanted to check security arrangements in order to ensure that the identity of the jurors would be protected when they visit the scene on Sunday.
The judge's visit was unannounced, but could not be shielded from the media attention which has accompanied this trial.
He was pacing through an itinerary which the jury will follow on Sunday.
The field trip will include an inspection of the pathway leading to the house where the bodies were found, and a tour inside.
The court has heard how blood from the victims was found on the carpets and stairs inside the house. Defence and prosecution lawyers who accompanied the judge interpret this in different ways.
The prosecution say it proves the murderer had free access to the house.
The defense claim that police inadvertently trailed blood into the house after walking through the crime scene.
