Stephen A. Smith was recently asked to apologize for remarks he made on ESPN about domestic violence. The apology received mixed reviews and there is a laundry list of interpretations of what happened and why.
Damario Solomon-Simmons, an attorney out of Oklahoma and member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, speaks about freedom of speech in the workplace and how this applied in the way ESPN responded to the comments by Stephen A. Smith vs. those of Rob Parker just a few months ago.
The bottom line here appears to be that even though you have freedom of speech in American society, you can't always say what you want on the job without facing repurcussions. In the case of Stephen A. Smith, his $2 million dollar salary was on the line and the implications for ESPN's brand were quite serious.
