When the barometer falls and the Wisconsin North Woods fill with flying snow, it is time to head to the forests, lakes, and rivers with my trusted Canon EF 400mm f5.6L lens and the Canon 7D Mk 1. Blowing snow and encroaching winter weather creates moments of intense wildlife activity before the animals seek cover. Coyotes and Trumpeter Swans are some of my favorite Winter photo subjects. Northwest Wisconsin was in the hub of the Trumpeter Swans successful recovery into the wild in the late 1980s and early 1990s. We now have a thriving source population that is re-wilding the Great Lakes states! Northwest Wisconsin's coyotes enjoy abundance, with populations local to my area experiencing highs and lows, depending upon where our local wolf population thrives and the overall disease/health condition of the population from year to year. Enjoy the beauty of Wisconsin's wild!
