Fishing Pole Trap
The fishing rod trap is one of White's simplest traps. There have been many times when grandmasters have lost to club players with fishing rods. If the player is unfamiliar with the fishing rod, it is very likely that they will get stuck and the game will end quickly.
1st e4 e5
2nd Nf3 Nc6
3. Bb5 Nf6
4. O-O Ng4 (looking for White to play h3)
5. h3 h5
When White responds with a 4, the most common mainline move, the fishing rod I'm from the Berlin defense. 0-0 After White Castle, Black has an interesting Ng4 move. This seems like an odd move since Knight first moved him twice, which is usually not a good thing. Knight is also exposed on the other side of the board and looks very vulnerable.
White's most logical play is to h3 out Knight and increase the tempo to make Knight dance more on the board. What white doesn't realize is that black doesn't move the knight and instead he plays h5 to support the knight and encourage white's capture.
