Consumers and businesses choose Fairtrade coffee because it combines economic, social and environmental standards. It is the most widely known and trusted certification that is changing the lives of coffee farmers.
25 million small holder farmers produce 80% of the world's coffee. Most of these farmers live in remote areas, lack access to credit and are vulnerable to the volatile market price for coffee. Fairtrade guarantees farmers a minimum price and links farmers directly with buyers, which creates long-term sustainability. Fairtrade farmers also receive the Fairtrade Premium which enables them to invest in better farming practices, improve the quality of their coffee and environmental practices and build better lives for their families and communities.
