In a famous hadith the prophet salalahualayhiwasalam said, “Ataqwa ha huna” and pointed to his chest three times and said “Taqw is here”
That’s why I am doing this, to see what the prophet salalahualayhiwasalam did, add a little visual to the statement.
Because he could have just said, “taqwa is in the heart” and that would’ve been enough, but he pointed to his chest three times to illustrates where taqwa is.
What we learn from that is, a taqwa is not simply something that you know about just the actions that we do.
So, it’s not just about fasting and withholding from eating and drinking and sexual intimacy.
It’s not about the prayers we pray.
Just starting from the takbeer and doing these particular movements until the tasleem.
No, what is intended from these action that we do is the presence of the consciousness of Allah azawajal. It’s the awe that we have of Allah azawajal.
It’s the reverence that we have of Allah azawajal.
It’s the fear we have from Allah azawajal while we are offering these acts of worship.
And hence, the prophet salalalhualayhiwasala he says, “man lam yada’aqolulzuur, wala’malabihi, fa laysalilahihajaanyadha’adha’amahuwasharaba.”
He salalahualayhiwasalam says, while fasting whoever doesn’t leave falls speech and false actions
It doesn’t stop them from cursing, it doesn’t stop them from backing, it doesn’t stop the from doing evil things, then Allah azawajal has no need for that person to withhold themselves from eating and drinking, because they are not fulfilling the higher purpose of fasting.
Feeling the presence of Allah azawajal, the consciousness of Allah azawajal.
Similarly, Allah azawajal says in the Quran in Surat Al-Hajj ayah 37 Allah azawajal says with regards to the offering of the sacrifice, the blood of these animals and its meat doesn’t reach Allah azawajal, but what reaches Allah azawajal what ascends to Allah azawajal is that taqwa. Is that reverence, it’s that fear of Allah azawajal, that consciousness of Allah azawajal.
So, we have to place extra effort that when we are performing these actions that we’re not simply performing the skeletons without the spirit of these actions.
That we conceptualize, and we remember the spirit of these actions the taqwa of Allah azawajal while we are offering these actions.
And that Allah azawajal may accept of us, and may we be of the muttaqeen. Allahuma Ameen.
