Benjamin Moore’s brief instructional video explains how to choose the correct roller for the job you are doing!
Rollers help you paint large surface quickly, but choosing the wrong roller can really slow you down. Now when you go to a paint store, you’ll notice you have lots of choices; rollers are available in a variety of sizes and different pilings. Now that can be confusing, but let me show you how to choose the right roller for your project. Now a roller can be used to apply most of the paint that you buy. So again, you want to make sure you buy a good roller; now the discount multi-packs will not give you good results. We recommend Benjamin Moore’s Shred Resistant Professional Roller Covers that are available in a variety of materials. Now, let me give you an example of what I’m talking about. This here is a cheaper roller; if I were to use some painter’s tape and wrap around the nap like so, look what happens when I tear it off. You can see all the lint on the tape. If I do the same with the Benjamin Moore’s Shred Resistant Roller, I wrap the painting tape around it, and I tear it off, you see very little, if not nothing. That’s the difference between the two qualities. The napple thickness of the roller will be determined by the finish and the paint being used, and the roughness or texture of the surface being painted. Now the higher the gloss, the lower the nap roller; the rougher the surface texture, the higher the nap roller. Now a typical ceiling and wall being painted with flat or and eggshell finish can be applied with a 3/8 or ½ inch nap roller such as this one. Now if you’re painting a cinder block wall with flat paint, I’d recommend a ¾ or 1 inch nap roller like this one here. Now one last tip is to always wash your roller in warm, soapy water and rinse it out so that you don’t end up with any lint on the roller before you start your painting project.
