Hello YouTube family!

Today, I'm in the kitchen (again lol) making homemade beef jerky! As most of you know, we are moving to Alaska in 3 short months and I have a freezer full of beef leftover from our last cow we butchered & I don't want it to be wasted & I can't take it across country with us! Beef jerky is a GREAT way to preserve meat & it's tasty & good for you! A protein rich snack :)

Here's the recipe!

What you'll need:
4-5 lbs of beef (or venison, whatever you're using)
1/3 cup worcestershire sauce
2 tsp onion powder
1 TBS minced garlic
1-1/2 tsp liquid smoke
1-1/2 tsp pepper (you can also add red pepper flakes if desired for more spice!)
You'll need enough soy sauce to submerge the beef in the bowl (low sodium soy sauce can be used if desired).

1. Prepare your meat by cutting away any fat & cutting it into 1/8-1/4 inch thick strips. Put all the meat in a bowl.
2. Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl & mix well, incorporating the ingredients into the meat.
3. Cover & marinate in the fridge for 6-10 hrs. I marinate for 6 hrs. Keep in mind, the longer it marinates, the saltier the jerky will be.
4. Remove from the fridge & place your jerky strips on your dehydrator trays, ensuring they're not touching or overlapping.
5. Dehydrate at 150 degrees for approx 8 hrs. When the jerky is done, it should bend easily & have a white texture inside. If it's still pink or red, dehydrate a bit longer, but check on it so you don't over do it.

And that's it! Homemade jerky will last 1-2 months if stored in an airtight container BUT if you vacuum seal it, it'll last for up to 2 yrs! Thanks for hangin' out with me for another homestead kitchen video, cheers!
