Exploring the town of Apatity in Murmansk region of Russia. The largest deposit of apatites and nephelines and the Soviet scientific center on the Kola Peninsula.
Apatity is located beyond the Arctic Circle in 157km southeast from the city of Murmansk, Russia around Khibiny Mountains and Imandra Lake.
The city is name just after the mineral it is very rich with - apatites.
Apatite is a raw material for the production of phosphate fertilizers, phosphorus and phosphoric acid, it is used in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, in the production of ceramics and glass. That’s why natural mineral apatite formations are economically feasible to process on an industrial scale.
