This is a recorded Solo Level speedrun of Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, in particular Mission 2 Alpine Village (Cold Dagger). This was completed on Recruit Difficulty, with an in-game time of 0:46. I finally nabbed the world record from Berry's excellent 0:50.

Each time I have decided to do some runs of this map, I have always used a different route. My dream since the beginning was to find a route which would allow me to kill every terrorist on the map to save me rescuing the hostages. From the notes of Berry's speedrun, I noticed he had a similar idea in mind, but never found a satisfactory route. After a month of trial and error, and over 300 attempts, I finally got a kill-route to work - and shattered the 0:50 wall, getting WR.

I cannot emphasize this enough- this route is incredibly luck-dependent. The main reason why is the random spawn terrorists. There are 2 spots which I believe cause the most issues. First, I believe that a guard can randomly spawn in the room in the upper floor of the town hall. If this the case, because he is so out of the way, no operative can make it to that room within a reasonable time. Second, is spawns in the far left housing area. While my Red route goes that way, if they spawn around the back of the town hall, I will probably be unable to kill them. I get lucky in this run- the guard around there is luckily in my line of sight when I arrive in the area. There are more luck factors too, such as Gold having an ideal start at the beginning. Without it, Gold risks being too slow in getting to the furthest back house. It is also preferable if Gold does not slow down to shoot too many enemies- which is something I have no control over. Naturally, if Gold is injured, it is a reset. One is also often at the mercy of patrolling guards- sometimes they are just not in the best spots. And finally, a personal gripe of mine- the very first house. There are two guards in there- one who patrols by the window and into the bedroom, and another by a wall completely out of sight of all of my operatives. However, during testing, I noticed that if you shoot through the first guard's window, even if he is not there, the second guard will often come running to see what is happening- giving a takedown opportunity. This kill is a massive timesave, as it saves any team from actually going into the first house. Problem is...the second guard sometimes decides not to come, or (if the bedroom door is open) he might see one of my other teams and just gets spooked (and typically, he stops running just before the window!). All of these things turned an otherwise simple map into an absolute nightmare.

But, enough complaining- how did I do it? Red takes the left path around the first house and follows it all the way past the left side of the town hall. I have to dip into a side room of the town hall to takedown a sniper and a fellow guard (though the latter is sometimes alarmed, and he opens the linking door to the courtyard- leaving him at Green's mercy). I then continue along the left path entering an open area. There are two guards who roam around this area in a pair. They can be anywhere from the entrance to the open space to the back of the town hall- but if they see you, they tend to come along and say hi. As I mentioned above, they often have a friend who is a random spawn. Then I do a silly trick. There is a sniper who watches the basement door of the town hall from the 1st floor of a nearby house. He has a colleague in the same building on the ground floor, who would normally need to be dealt with by going directly to the house (which is a massive timeloss). But, if you kill the sniper from the basement door, there is a chance his friend will come seeking revenge, whereby he conveniently opens the door to the house- lining himself up nicely. This has a chance not to occur; if it doesn't, I reset- the timeloss is too substantial, and I cannot order my teammate there in time before I have to team-swap. Topic of, I then enter the basement of the town hall, and clear out the enemies by the hostage. Then I swap to Gold.

Gold, during this time, has dashed from the beginning past the right side of the town hall, dipping into a house to kill a lone guard along the way. He then dashes to the last house, where I take control by the entrance. I dash in, killing the 3 guards on the ground floor to attract the last guard from the upper floor, who I takedown accordingly. This part of the run was, in my view, not very clean- it could have been done better here.

Green, during all this malarkey, strolls into the town hall, rescuing the hostage in the main floor before clearing out their side of the basement area.

Of all the runs I have done so far, this is the one I am proudest of. I am so annoyed I failed to record my first 0:46, but I am glad I was able to eventually capture it. I think this time will be difficult to beat at present- but I am so glad to have brought Alpine past the 0:50 mark.
