This was a fun moment between Mirabel and her mom Juliet that I had the opportunity to animate. Michael Woodside did a fantastic job setting up and leading Julieta. He had so much specificity in mind for her, that it was a joy to try and mine all that out in these performances. I also love that the directors let us go for a shot that stayed primarily with Julieta listening to Mirabel talk on that first shot. It seems atypical for an animated film to do that, but it really was where all the juicy acting and emotion was happening, so why not point the camera at Julieta, right?!

I also threw in some blocking Alts I did for the Mirabel shot in the middle. I was trying to find the right texture and amplitude of how much her hands should be moving around in the shot. Ultimately, while I liked the floppy wrist version, the directors, supes and I all agreed the more simple version was the way to go. Last but not least, the part I think I’m the most excited about, is that I modeled the wrapper around the arepa! 😂🤣🤪 I love arepas, especially Sus Arepas here in town. And if you’ve never had an arepa, you definitely should try one asap! You’ll see, the wrapper is a must! Also, what better excuse to eat more arepas then needing to find authentic “reference?”
