We went A-Frame Camping and Exploring Johnson's Shut-ins State Park over Halloween Weekend 2020. Please subscribe to our channel if you enjoy exploring our parks and public lands.
We left after work on Friday and the drive down from St Charles County to Johnson's Shut-ins State Park was beautiful with the almost full moon and a lovely sunset. We got to camp and set up our A-frame camper in site 321 in the campground. The next morning, we made coffee and breakfast at camp. Then we headed out for a photo activity for our "virtual" Newton Falls Zombie Run. It was fun to try to complete the list of photos for the scavenger hunt while exploring Johnson's Shut-ins State Park as well as Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site. We spend the afternoon, enjoying camp cooking and a small fire. Halloween evening ended with a lovely sunset!
On Sunday, we hiked 10 miles on the Goggins Mountain Trail just at the edge of the campground. We got a bit off trail at the beginning, but had a great hike and a great time. After 10 miles on the Goggins Mountain Trail, we deserved cheese burgers and fried potatoes for dinner. We also had a bigger fire! Monday morning, we drove over to the trailhead to the Shut-ins Trail. This is a great walk that we LOVE and wanted to be there on this beautiful Fall morning all by ourselves. Biggest fire was on Monday night and we said goodbye to our Newton Falls Zombie. Tuesday, we had to go home. We decided to film our A-Frame departure checklist.
