A speck of land at the far western reaches of the Aleutian Islands, Adak has a unique history. Originally a Native American settlement, the volcanic island has seen the Russian fur trade, played a part in the only WWII land battle fought on North America soil, and served as a Cold War military base. While the military base is now abandoned, people still visit the island to hunt the caribou herd that remains there.
Your presenters, Brian Stibitz and David Sleamon, have visited the island many times. They will discuss the island’s history and, through photographs, depict a hunting experience on an island with abundant wildlife and military relics.
