If you're looking for some of the best snorkeling Big Island of Hawaii has this is one of many places to go. Kona Snorkeling is easily some of the best available in Hawaii. In this series we snorkel all of the spots so you don't have to! Our Kona snorkeling guide has all of the snorkeling spots in and around Kona town within 25 minutes drive.
Kekaha Kai is a State Beach located just 15 minutes north of Kona town, It's only partly paved and is best accessed with a vehicle that has some clearance like an an SUV or truck. We love this beach because it's close to town, and often not very busy. It has nice restrooms and is semi protected from ocean swell. There's plenty of trees to linger in the shade. The snorkeling here is a solid 5/10. The visibility could be better and there's often a bit of wind chop due to its location in the island's saddle where the wind is usually more intense. This is an excellent beach for plane spotting as it's right in line with the airport landing strip.
While it may not be the best snorkeling Big Island has it's certainly a great beach worthy of a look. For places to snorkel near Kona check out our guide below.
