The Ayta Abellen people, who live in the mountains of the Tarlac Province of Luzon are descendants of the very first inhabitants of the Philippine Islands. For many centuries they have lived as hunter-gatherers, depending on the rich forest resource for their living. During the last 150 years the forest resources have been depleted by logging and settlement. Transition into a modern world has been very difficult for the AYTA who have no legal claim to the lands they've occupied for hundreds of years. Their death rate now exceeds their birth rate.
They work hard for the very little they have. They seek opportunities to develop sustainable living resources and education. ©2011 Bill Curtis Video Productions
