Description: Joab was a tough, brave and skilful army commander, intensely loyal to his uncle David, ruthless towards his enemies, and jealous of his rivals to the point of murder. More than forty years of shared hardships and dangers forged bonds between Joab and David that the king was later unable to break, even when he had been given good cause to rid himself of Joab. The soldier knew the scriptures but did not live up to the meaning of his name.
