In the last video we saw how effective the ME 262 was as a bomber destroyer, now let's take a look at how to counter the threat with a piston engine aircraft.
Although most 262 losses were while either taking off or landing, there were instances of them being shot down in air to air combat as well.
The most notable Tempest pilot's who achieved this were:
Squadron Leader Joseph Berry - Flying with No. 274 Squadron RAF, Berry achieved the first confirmed Hawker Tempest victory over an Me 262 on February 19, 1945.
Flight Lieutenant Peter Cazenove - Cazenove, also from No. 274 Squadron RAF, scored two victories against Me 262s on March 7, 1945.
Flight Lieutenant R.P. Beamont - Beamont, a highly decorated test pilot and wartime pilot, downed two Me 262s while flying a Hawker Tempest V with No. 56 Squadron RAF on March 25, 1945.
Wing Commander Roland Beamont - The brother of R.P. Beamont, Roland Beamont was also a skilled pilot who flew the Tempest V. He claimed two Me 262 victories on April 1, 1945, while leading No. 150 Wing RAF.
In this video we attempt to recreate their achievements in online cooperative play and demonstrate the tactics and teamwork necessary to engage, close with and destroy the much faster jet interceptors.
