"Thank you for your leadership that you will continue to bring to the world for the next five years. It is extremely important. I am very happy to be able to work on major issues together, whether it is Ukraine, whether it is the climate change, whether it's economic growth, whether it's our relationship with developing countries. We're working very well together. These are crucial moments for progressive leaders to continue to have a positive impact on the world which is increasingly troublesome."

"We share the same philosophy and great clarity regards to the war launched by Russia in Ukraine, with strong decisions and common strategic positioning. But also a desire to help in this context the developing countries to face the climate challenges and inequalities. I think our two countries have an agenda that is extremely similar. The bilateral relationship is strong on these subjects of health and artificial intelligence, as they are set up in this G-7. The relationship between France and Canada is important."

STORYLINE:
French President Emanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Germany to discuss the Ukraine crisis.
Trudeau confirmed the pair had a good working relationship and he looked forward to it continuing over the next five years.
"I am very happy to be able to work on major issues together, whether it is Ukraine, whether it is the climate change, whether it's economic growth, whether it's our relationship with developing countries. We're working very well together," he said.
Macron confirmed Trudeau's sentiments stating, "I think our two countries have an agenda that is extremely similar."
And adding, "The relationship between France and Canada is important."
The war in Ukraine was already at the forefront of the G-7 leaders' minds as they opened their summit at the secluded Schloss Elmau luxury hotel on Sunday - just as Russian missiles hit the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv for the first time in weeks.
