Big news a few weeks ago was that the Alliance and Horde Auction Houses were merging whenever Warlords of Draenor will be released. Turns out, it's live on the Beta, so let's talk about it and ease any concerns.
The first question is of course, yes you will still be able to make gold in WoW. That's a given. In fact, there will be twice as many buyers on each server because the population is so high because of all the cross-realm and cross-faction merging. A Warcraft Auction House that would have only ever had 10,000 toons visiting it over a year, might have 100,000 come WoD.
The prices will fall, but not by the same amount that the population of each server will rise. So, if the Earthen Ring triples in size, it's prices won't fall down to 1/3rd of where they were. This may seem obvious, but anyone worried about markets tanking thinks this to some degree. One market that for sure won't crash is the gathering professions, because they're already so close to perfect competition. In crafting markets, you have 3-10 people posting items up for one piece of gear, but in Ghost Iron Ore, Green Tea Leaves (soon to be Blackrock Ore, True Iron Ore, Frostweed, Fireweed, and Starflower) you have 2-3 times as many people posting and hundreds of times as many items. Prices will fall, but they've pretty much bottomed out already.
Good luck and I'll see you in the Warlords of Draenor!
