DBT Skills : Monday 4-5 p.m.
The DBT Skills group is formatted to help develop skills for coping and emotional dysregulation. Some group objectives might include, but are not limited to, discussions about: distress tolerance, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.
Understanding Self and Others : Monday 4-5:30 p.m.
(Interpersonal Process Group)
Are you feeling isolated? Lonely? Misunderstood? Struggling in relationships with friends, family, or romantic partners? Understanding Self and Others (USO) is an interpersonal process group that focuses on improving relationships. USO provides a safe and supportive environment for members to talk and learn about the ways in which they interact with others, while exploring and experimenting with new ways of behaving in relationships. This is a closed group and spots are limited.
LGBQ :Tuesday 4-5 p.m.
An interpersonal process group that provides a safe, affirming, and empowering space for individuals who are exploring their sexuality or identifies as a sexual minority (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Pansexual, Demisexual, Asexual, etc.). The group aims to help individuals with their sexual identities, sexual health, family of origin concerns, coming out, building interpersonal support/relationships with others in the community, and so much more.
Lean On Me
Tuesday 5-6 p.m.
Have you witnessed or experienced racial discrimination? Concerned with self-acceptance? Struggling to cope with microaggressions? Lean On Me provides a safe and affirming space for historically marginalized racial groups to explore a variety of issues related to racial oppression, discrimination, and microaggressions. Group members learn the impact of systemic oppression on mental and physical health and coping strategies for microaggressions and discrimination.
Walk and Talk : Tuesday 5-6 p.m.
Meet at the Lady of the Mist, hop up, and come explore the beautiful parks and scenery that Louisiana Tech has to offer. Being physically active helps release some tensions and stimulates new thoughts and ideas. It is a metaphor for moving forward. This group will enable you to grow closer to yourself, others and nature all at once!
Tension Tamers : Wednesday 3-4 p.m.
Take time out of your busy week and learn healthy stress reduction techniques with “hands on” approach and activities. Each week a different engaging activities to reduce stress and learn how to incorporate these fun activities into students’ busy life. If you could benefit from taking time out of your busy schedule to color, play games, learn mediation and mindfulness activities, journaling, and much more, please come join us.
Gender Variant : Wednesday 5-6 p.m.
This group provides a safe and affirming space to explore a variety of issues, including, but not limited to, relationships, self-acceptance, and coping with discrimination. Discussions may include gender identity exploration, adjusting to new social identities, negotiating how to come out to friends or family, and/ or transitioning.
Smart HABITS : Thursday 3-5 p.m.
Providing assistance for students who are “at risk” of academic probation or suspension, coaching students to learn the fundamental skills and strategies to achieve better life choices and to improve their GPA. Topics cover all areas of college student’s life to include studying, lifestyle, relationships, behaviors, and finding your purpose through your career. Certificate of completion is obtained as documentation of completion
Anxiety :Thursday 4-5 p.m.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by academic pressures and other stressful circumstances? This group is for students who want to learn about anxiety and how to manage it. Join this group to learn and practice a variety of anxiety management tools. Are you coping with any form of anxiety including chronic worry, social anxiety, obsessive thoughts, health related worry, and/or panic attacks? This structured skills group uses cognitive-behavioral based strategies to help break the cycle of anxiety.
Grief Group: Thursday 5-6 p.m.
The loss of a loved one is one of the most challenging events in one’s life. While grief is a highly individualized experience, many people find comfort, hope, and strength by coming together with others. In this general loss support group, you will experience a safe and supportive environment where you will be around other people who have recently experienced loss and thus understand what you are going through. Anyone who is experiencing the loss of a loved one is welcome to join this general loss support group. This is a closed group and spots are limited.
