During the summer of 1943 the entire Eastern Front faltered. Although all the analyzes have focused on what happened in the vicinity of Kursk, further north in Smolensko, another great battle was fought that ended up causing the withdrawal of most of the German Center Army Group about 250 kilometers. One of the armies that defended this sector of Smolensko, was the 4th Army of General Gotthard Heinrici.
