For selected cases of cavernous malformations of the brainstem (CMBs), the extreme lateral variant may be associated with the opening of the tentorium (extreme lateral transtentorial approach), which provides a better exposure anteriorly, including the postero-medial surface of the temporal lobe. The resection shown here uses an extreme lateral variant of the Supracerebellar Infratentorial (SCIT) approach.
