Don’t go to Ha Long to do a cruise to see Ha Long Bay, but go here instead:
👉🏽Stay at Cat Ba Island and start a cruise from there.
❗️BECAUSE you will start in Lan Ha Bay and cruise to Ha Long Bay. These bays are next to each other and have the same scenery.
The best thing about starting a cruise to see Ha Long Bay from Lan Hah Bay, is that you will visit the south area of Ha Long Bay.
❌BUT if you start the cruise or tour from Ha Long City, you will cruise around the north of the bay. This is where all the cruises go to the hotspots and it’s way more busy!
❗️AND also make sure you don’t do this:
A day tour or overnight cruise with a big company! They don’t go far into Lan Ha Bay as well, cause they are too big to have their own kayaks etc.
⛴️ BOOK instead a small group tour. You will go to quiet places and kayak all alone around bays and caves.
We booked with @catbaexpedition and overnight tour. We recommend this one if you have enough time and budget. Otherwise there’s an option to do a day trip, which is also very nice. The food is amazing and we did some night kayaking with plankton.
The best time to visit Ha Long Bah and Lan Ha Bay is between October and April when dry season is. We went during the end of June and were lucky with the weather. It’s less crowded, but big day tours will be busy with Vietnamese tourists.
