In this video I’m going to run through how you can setup a Bitcoin node really easily on a Raspberry Pi using Umbrel.

From Bitcoin.org (share Running A Full Node - Bitcoin): A full node is a program that fully validates transactions and blocks. Almost all full nodes also help the network by accepting transactions and blocks from other full nodes, validating those transactions and blocks, and then relaying them to further full nodes.

Many people volunteer to run full nodes using spare computing and bandwidth resources—but more volunteers are needed to allow Bitcoin to continue to grow.

So why is it important to run your own node? Because you are supporting the Bitcoin network by ensuring it is decentralised and secure. It also means you can validate your own transactions and run your own wallet.

We’re going to cover all the hardware bits you need as well as how to setup the software and get you up and running and supporting the network.

*** HARDWARE ***

OK, so let’s run through some of the things you need. You’ll find links to all these in the description:

Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, £79.50, [ Ссылка ]

*** SOFTWARE ***

Go to [ Ссылка ] and it provides a nice step by step process to installing it onto an SD card using Belena Etcher for the Raspberry Pi. (Open this on the screen and record walking through the steps and record screen).

Belena Etcher moves the operating system from a ZIP onto the SD card so it can be run by the Raspberry Pi. You need to choose the zip file you downloaded from getumbrel.com and choose the SD card drive you want to install it on.

Then, plug the SD card into the Raspberry Pi, connect the Ethernet cable, and power it on. Wait for a few minutes, then navigate to [ Ссылка ] (you need the HTTP bit and it’s HTTP not HTTPS) from another PC on the network.

It should give you a wizard to guide you through a few steps. First enter your name.

And your password (write this down somewhere secure).

Next it will prompt you to write down your 24-word passphrase. DO WRITE THIS DOWN! This is used to restore your node (and wallet) if you need it. If you use the wallet and don’t write this down you will loose all your Bitcoin!

Next it will give you’re an Onion browser address to your node so you don’t need to be on your network to access your node (although you may need to configure your router or firewall to allow that).

It will then give you a couple of prompts (read them out).

And then we’re done!

Once we go into the dashboard we can see we’re up and running. Depending on your Internet speed, it will take several days to sync to the ledger.

In the App Store, there are some goodies you can install as the Mempool app that shows you which transactions are pending validation.
