How to remove an IO Intraosseous Catheter.

First loosen the pigtail catheter from the IO hub. This will stop blood from coming out quickly. Then detach the pigtail and attach a 10 cc syringe. Have a 2x2 gauze ready and let the pt know that they will feel a tugging sensation (if they are alert enough). Next pull firmly straight out and discard needle into sharp container and place gauze on IO site. Tape down and monitor for bleeding.
