Script (for documentation):
Alrighty, good afternoon y’all. So, it’s been a week since I went heavy in the gym, mainly because I’ve been healing up a few nagging injuries, and they’re all feeling a lot better. It makes me wonder if I’ve actually done some supercompensation even though I’m only 19 years old. But that’s beside the point.
I’ve been downright craving some regularity recently. Like the kind of stuff that we all felt back in grade school, waking up at the same time every day and going to a place to work 5 days a week. It reminds me of the way I felt a couple years ago when I started my first dedicated weight cut.
The first time I ever intentionally lost weight was in my senior year of high school, back when I was 17 years old. It took me about 4 months to lose 36 pounds, averaging out to 2-3 pounds per week. During that time, I went from 215 pounds all the way down to 180.
And I honestly remember those times very fondly. It was something beautiful being able to predict personal progress to the point where I could even account for expounding variables, like a poor night’s sleep affecting my lifting performance.
And during that time, I also maintained a pretty strict adherence to a dedicated lifting program. I was lifting 5 times a week, pretty freaking heavy too. I was actually able to improve my lifts as I lost weight, staying around a 225 bench, 315 squat, and 365 deadlift.
This makes me think of how amazing it felt to adhere to a dedicated lifting program instead of going about lifting all willy-nilly like I have been this past year on squat every day. Although I have been progressing exceptionally well on squats, especially considering my extensive background with joint pain, I’ve been slacking on pretty much every other barbell movement.
All this makes me really want to go back to a dedicated lifting program, but I also want to keep squatting every day, even if it’s not as heavy as I have been recently.
With that, I’m developing a new lifting program. It’s not anything too official yet, because I want to test it out this next week to see if it’ll work well for me. But it’ll include 4 days of heavy lifting, each focusing on 1 of the primary barbell movements, squat, bench, deadlift, and overhead press, in addition to de-loading every 4-6 weeks.
And the cherry on top is that I’ve found a way to continue squatting every day, even if it’s not too heavy. I’ll just warm-up exactly how I do every day, including about every joint in the body, and do a light set of squats before any other exercises. There’s a good chance I’ll just be using the plain barbell on the other 6 days of the week that I’m not going heavy on squats, just to stay in practice.
I took this first day to try it out, and it worked super well! I did 4 movements in total, including barbell back squat, fullest-rom hamstring curl, fullest-rom leg extension, and some glute medius kickback, which I didn’t picture. It feels super nice to already be on a good path forward.
And with that, I want to offer my services to you. If you’ve been watching my channel for any length of time, you’d know that I’m a fairly advanced lifter with a special knack for recovery optimization. I’ve come from a background of years of knee pain and have now built my way up to squatting my hundreds of pounds for reps, only using what God gave me, my plain ol’ feet and knees.
