The daily COVID19 cases in India showed a slight dip with 3,68,147new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, taking the total tally of cases to1,99,25,604, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday. The death toll increased to 2,18,959 with 3,417 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. While the country recorded 4,01,993 new cases on May 1, it had registered 3,92,488 fresh cases on May 2. Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to34,13,642 comprising 17.13per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID19 recovery rate stands at 81.77 per cent. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1, 62,93,003,while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.10 per cent, the data stated.
Some hospitals in Delhi have said it has become a “daily fire-fight” for them to save lives of Covid-19 patients in the absence of continuous supply of medical oxygen, with one healthcare facility even “crying out” to the government to shift out its patients. The current wave of the coronavirus has put huge pressure on the city’s health system, with hospitals facing shortage of oxygen and equipment to treat COVID-19 patients besides beds. As many healthcare facilities continue to face crises, Lt Governor Anil Baijal directed top officers of the Delhi government to prepare a detailed action plan to address the shortage of the life-saving gas. The national capital reported 407 COVID-19 fatalities and 20,394 cases with a positivity rate of 28.33 per cent on Sunday, according to a bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.
