Giuseppe Tornatore makes wonderful films, and they are usually blessed with a sublime score by Ennio Morricone. This one was no exception, with a perfect mix of the playful and beautiful, but never forgetting the tragic heart of the story. This piece of music, which rightly opens the soundtrack album, brings these elements together, as Malèna strides through the village centre, seemingly impervious to the lust, envy and disgust directed towards her.
Starring Monica Bellucci and Giuseppe Sulfaro. Written by Giuseppe Tornatore, based on a story by Luciano Vincenzoni. Oscar nominated original score by Ennio Morricone.
(Title track roughly translates as 'Genuflection, hypocrites and despair')
